As part of the commemoration of 211 years of the assassination of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the Embassy of Haiti in Benin bows to the memory of this emblematic figure of the universal history whose fight aimed at the liberation of all Afro descendants in the world.

"Jean-Jacques Dessalines has broken the chains of the oppressive, inhuman and degrading slave system, in order to lay the foundations for a new world order based on social justice, fraternity and equality.

Ironically, every year since 1992, the United Nations has celebrated to this date the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty [...] This theme is similar to the cry of the heart launched by Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines, and which may have led to his loss. 'And the black poor whose fathers are in Africa, will they have nothing ?'

It would do justice to Dessalines if the elimination of poverty could one day become a reality in the world. But we must believe that the journey will be long and difficult."
