iciHaiti - Social : The Red Cross honors its volunteers
The National Society of the Haitian Red Cross (CRH) marked with a note of recognition the International Day of Volunteers through several commemorative activities during the week, including an evening in honor of volunteers and the delivery of plaques and certificates, on Friday, December 8 at the Best Western in Pétion-ville.

All 14 regions were represented at this tribute ceremony with two volunteers per region. They were honored by the National Society for their unconditional commitment to the movement. The commemorative activities took place from December 5th to 8th. This week of activities started on the day of the international celebration on December 5, is an opportunity to recognize the solidarity of volunteers who "answer to teh appeal in difficult times, taking risks to save lives."

Speaking at the evening of 8 December, the President of the National Society, Dr Guiteau Jean-Pierre recalled the importance of the volunteers who for him represent the backbone of the movement both in Haiti and around the world. One of these wishes is to see, finally, in Haiti, a law of the "Good Samaritan" to protect volunteers and medical personnel as part of their humanitarian work.

Faithful to tradition, volunteers mobilized through several local committees to mark the day. The theme chosen throughout the world for this year was : "Volunteers act first. Here. Everywhere."
