The Bahamas Immigration Department repatriated 114 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation on Thursday, 87 of whom (72 men, 12 women and three children) were intercepted on Christmas Eve on a boat about 30 miles to the south. Kirklyn Neely, Head of the Immigration Enforcement Unit, confirmed, "We are sending 114 persons back to Haiti at a cost of $40,000 [1 Bahamian dollar = 1 US dollar]. We are also keeping an eye out for the remaining four boats we expect to come to the Bahamas before the end of the holiday season. We got good information that they are on the way and so we have our guard up."
