iciHaiti - Economy : Waste exports pay more than agricultural exports !

Since 2014, Haiti exports plastic and metal waste and according to preliminary data made public by the monetary authorities, the export revenue from this waste increased in 2017 by about 30% in the country, from $19.4 million in 2016 to $25 million in 2017.

The export revenues of the waste in 2017 were greater than those of combined agricultural exports such as coffee (980,000 dollars), cocoa (5.2 million) and mangoes (12.3 million).

The plastic and metal waste sector is proving to be one of the most interesting export opportunities for Haiti and an important source of foreign exchange.
