iciHaiti - Diaspora : Commemoration of the 214 years of Independence in Kourou
The Consulate of the Republic of Haiti in French Guiana with the Haitian community commemorated, on January 1, 2018 in Kourou, the 214th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of Haiti.
Were present at this commemoration the Mayor of Kourou, Francois Ringuet and his deputies, two elected officials of the Territorial Collective, the Haitian Kourou Associations among others. After a solemn Mass, the day was spent at the rhythm of Haitian folk dances with Nèg Dahomey and the Alliance Association and the compass with the VIP group, without forgetting the tasting of the traditional giraumont soup as an element of sharing and living together with all the other communities of Kourou.
The Consulate thanked all the Haitian community, especially that of Kourou for his contributions to this day, which reminds everyone of the bravery of our ancestors recalling in his speech a sentence of Aimé Césaire "Haiti is the country where negritude "is standing up for the first time'.
