iciHaiti - Social : Preliminaries to the International Women's Rights Day
As part of the activities to mark the International Women's Rights Day, March 8, Renan Hedouville, the Protector of the Citizen accompanied by Jude Jn Pierre Director of Promotion, Amoce Auguste Director of Protection and its Director of Cabinet Wladimir Gassant, met with representatives of the feminist organizations of the capital as well as those residing in provincial cities including among others : "Kri fanm Dayiti", "Karavàn Fanm pou chanjman", "Fanm Vanyan Marigo".

This is a first contact, said Hédouville who intends to meet other feminist organizations as a prelude to the commemoration of the International Day to exchange ideas. Apart from women who are victims of physical, psychological and verbal violence, the Ombudsman wants to take advantage of this day to put some neglected women in society, particularly the "madan sara" and the housekeepers under the spotlight.

To show that progress has been made in term of promotion and protection of human rights in Haiti, Wladimir Gassant, recalled that the Office of the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) is accredited with status A, with the International Coordinating Committee (ICC) of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights of the United Nations System. However, he believes that much remains to be done in respect of the rights of marginalized groups.

For his part, Amoce Auguste invited these organizations to submit an action plan to the OPC in order to allow the Protection Office to find funds for their projects.

For Jude Jn Pierre, the support of the OPC does not only concern material resources, but also includes capacity building through continuous training. It encourages feminist organizations to adopt a methodology of participatory work in order to obtain good results.

To commemorate this day, Me Renan Hédouville encouraged these organizations to be creative in making this day an event that is out of the ordinary.
