To commemorate International Women's Day in a special way, the Port-au-Prince Municipal Council commited to respect equality between women and men.

Text adopted by the Municipal Council :

"1 - Considering that the equality of women and men is a fundamental principle of human rights;

2 - Considering that the Port-au-Prince City Council considers itself morally bound by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

3 - Considering that the principles of dignity, freedom and equity among individuals are founding principles of the country of Haiti;

4 - Considering that society can only advance and enrich itself if it promotes equity and equality between women and men;

5 - Considering that the Town Hall of Port-au-Prince is a public body whose mission is to offer services to its citizens to improve their quality of life;

6 - Considering the gender inequalities that persist in society;

7 - Considering that discrimination between persons prevents the full enjoyment of fundamental rights;

8 - Considering that it is essential that inequalities, discrimination, inequities and violence against women are combated and abolished.

Declare that :

- It condemns all acts of discrimination, inequality, iniquity, violence and any act of sexism aimed at promoting the superiority or inferiority of one genre over the other;

- It undertakes to adopt appropriate measures to combat violence, discrimination or acts or speech designed to abuse or decrease a person compared to another;

- It commits to take all necessary measures to promote equality and gender equity in its administration;

- It commits to promote equality between women and men, its actions and in its relations and communications with the citizens, particularly in terms of education and teaching.
