During her recent visit to the Dominican Republic, Her Majesty the Queen consort of Spain Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24293-haiti-diplomacy-the-queen-of-spain-soon-in-haiti.html , during a meeting at the House of Culture of Spain, in the Colonial Zone (Santo Domingo), in the presence of the representatives of the entities financed by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), pledged to provide the necessary resources for the construction of a binational dermatological hospital to host and treat mainly Haitian patients.

Dr. Polibio Batista Matos of the Dominican Dermatological Institute and Skin Surgery explained that she explained to Queen Letizia the need to build a dermatological hospital in Port-au-Prince or at the border of Jimaní because of the serious problems of existing health in Haiti and to strengthen the existing health infrastructure in the border area. At the end of this meeting it was decided that this hospital would be built in Jimaní (Independencia Province, North-West of the Dominican Republic).
