iciHaiti - Politic : Free School Transportation costs 400 million Gourdes to the State
Thursday, the fourth day of the Special Week of Conferences around Back to School, Romuald Piard, the Director General of the "Dignité" school transport company, indicated that he currently has a fleet of 200 operational buses to start the school bus service across the country's 10 departments, for the next school year, September 3rd. He said that about 50 additional buses are currently undergoing technical interventions and should join the available fleet as soon as they are repaired.

He also announced that 35-seat buses will be put into service this year to serve neighborhoods that are difficult to reach with large vehicles.

Romuald Piard noted that "Dignité's buses also served students with special needs at the Monfort Institute (deaf children) and St-Vincent School (children with physical disabilities).

He reminded the parents that this school bus service was completely free of charge "pwogram transpò pou elèv yo Dignité a gratis ti cheri nan tout peyi a pou tout elèv, kit li ta nan lekòl prive tankou lekòl piblik," whose costs are fully insured by the Treasury to the tune of nearly 400 million gourdes."
