The event took place near the Bogart irrigation canal, in the Platanal area, where police officers were raiding. A police operation that met with strong opposition from Haitian nationals, who threw stones and other objects at police officers, protesting the numerous police patrols in the area. The police report indicates that it was during this assault that the victim attempted to seize a police officer's weapon and was fatally shot by the police officer.
