iciHaiti - Economy : The binational markets very affected by the demonstrations
The binational markets between Haiti and the Dominican Republic that take place each week (Monday and Friday) were badly affected Monday by the violent anti-government protests that erupted Sunday in Haiti.

According to the Association of Merchants of the municipality of Comendador, in the province of Elías Piña, only Haitians in the neighboring cities of the markets have made their purchases which represent barely 20% of the usual transactions. Same situation in Dajabón where commercial activity fell by 75%.

The big merchants who account for nearly 80% of the purchases, coming from the big cities did not move because of the insecurity on the roads in Haiti. A supply deficit that is likely to translate into the markets of the major Haitian city, by a scarcity of certain products and an inevitable rise in prices...

However, on the border markets, vendors were present until 8:00 pm, and no disturbances or demonstrations were reported near these commercial areas.
