iciHaiti - Environment : Reforestation in Port-Salut

Aiming at rehabilitating the forest and fruit tree cover in Port-Salut commune, with Matthew hurricane impact (2016, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18809-haiti-flash-hurricane-matthew-the-current-situation.html ) still prevalent, Ministry of Environment South Department Direction, in partnership with Un Environment, has been carrying out a one-week transplantation of 80,000 forest and fruit species grown in a nursery purposely established to restore this watershed.
This initiative which is expected to cover more than 10 acres of land is implemented in the frame of the Ministry’s efforts to reduce erosion uphill and sedimentation on the shoreline. 10 women and 15 men residing in the transplantation area take part in this activity and are committed to maintain planted seedlings.
