iciHaiti - Society : Haitians very connected to social networks
According to a study by Safitek Research on mobile technology in the Port-au-Prince area, based on a sample of residents over the age of 15 and over, residing in the metropolitan area, 94% of smartphone users said they were connected to social networks in priority on WhatsApp messaging (85%) followed by Facebook (55%), YouTube (15%), Instagram and Twitter (6%).

The Safitek survey reveals no significant differences without the use of social networks between men and women on the frequency of use of social networks except that they do not privilege the same networks.

The study found no major differences between smartphone owners aged 35 and over and those aged 15 to 34. However, the survey reveals that only 67% of smartphone owners over the age of 55 reported using a social network against 96% of those aged 15 to 54.

91% of those surveyed said they did not have an internet connection at home. 60% of smartphone owners said they have difficult access to Wifi (electricity shortage, only 25% of the sample said they have electricity 10 to 12 hours per day) which forces consumers to buy data mobile to have online access. The average user in the metropolitan area consumes 1.3 gigabytes of mobile data per month.
