iciHaiti - Boat People : 86 Haitians intercepted off Providenciales

On Sunday, naval officers from the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) aboard the Sea Guardian, with the help of the US Coast Guard, intercepted an overcrowded boat packed with 86 Haitian migrants shortly after 10 pm fleeing Haiti (77 men, 6 women and 3 children).
The vessel was in TCI territorial waters 32 miles from Providenciales, an island in the archipelago.
The Haitians were arrested and taken to the Port of South Dock where they were handed over to the immigration officers and escorted to the detention center for treatment and repatriation to Haiti.
