iciHaiti - UNICEF : 22% of Haitian children suffer from chronic malnutrition

According to the latest UNICEF report, 22% of Haitian children under 5 are chronically malnourished today and 4% are acutely malnourished.

The United Nations alert comes at a time of turmoil for the country, after 7 weeks of protests and blockade to demand the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse, while noting humanitarian crises in some provinces

The UN calls on governments, the private sector, donors, parents, families and businesses to tackle growing malnutrition and help children grow up healthy.

UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said, "In Haiti, the numbers are alarming as 2.6 million people are food insecure and nearly 600,000 are in critically phase", according to data from the National Coordination of Food Security (CNSA).

Experts warn that the situation may worsen in the coming months due to, among other things, to the unsatisfactory government policies and growing social unrest.
