The National Office for Migration and Refugees in the Dominican Republic has asked the Dominican Government to adopt humanitarian measures to help the Haitian population trapped in a climate of violence in Haiti.

"We are not asking to open the border, but there is a flow of humanitarian aid to makes with the current situation in Haiti," said William Charpantier, General Coordinator of the Office.

"We call on the Haitian parties to the conflict, that is to say, the Government, the political opposition, the sectors of civil society, trade unions and businessmen to compromise to restore dialogue and avoid further bloodshed."
