Thursday in the European Parliament, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, during her speech described to parliamentarians a dark picture of the current situation in Haiti and called to initiate a political process likely to create the conditions for the international community to support the long-term development of the country, which is also undergoing a serious institutional crisis, without a functioning Government or Parliament.

Adding "Broad layers of the population are protesting against the way the country is governed [...] political positions are becoming more radical, the humanitarian crisis is worsening and gang-related violence is also increasing [...]"
