iciHaiti - Humanitarian : Taiwanese donation of 2,200 tonnes of rice

The past week at the premises of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), in the presence, among others, of Charles Ernest Chatelier, Director General of FAES, of Bocchit Edmond, Minister of Foreign Affairs, of Bang-Zyh Liu, the Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China) accredited in Haiti and FAES executives, Taiwan has handed to the Haitian Government via FAES, a donation of 2,200 metric tonnes of rice worth 9.2 million US dollars.

In his speech for the occasion, Ambassador Liu expressed the feelings of solidarity and fraternity of the Taiwanese people towards the Haitian people recalling "Concerned by the magnitude of the needs to be met to face the great challenge of food insecurity in Haiti, the Taiwanese Government has stood alongside the Haitian people through ad hoc humanitarian actions and the implementation of structural programs, in particular the strengthening of rice seed production and the construction of three rice seed packaging centers in the country https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29795-haiti-taiwan-president-moise-inaugurates-a-modern-seed-center-in-morne-casse.html in order to contribute to the agricultural development of Haiti and put the country on the path to food self-sufficiency."

In his speech, Charles Ernest Chatelier thanked the Taiwanese Government solemnly for the materialization of the donation of these 2,200 metric tonnes of rice arrived in Port-au-Prince between December 26, 2019 and January 7, 2020 in 110 containers. He took the opportunity to remind the population of the various interventions of the "Kore Pèp" Program from October 4, 2019 to January 26, 2020 where 105,000 hot dishes were distributed through 34 "Kantin Mobil" operations and 365,577 vulnerable people received kits food.
