Incidents occurred on Wednesday on the sidelines of a student protest movement denouncing the rise in insecurity and asking the authorities to cancel the National Carnival scheduled for February 23, 24 and 25.

As the demonstrators were heading towards street Capois, a few dozen unidentified individuals and students of various faculties, from the minfestation, vandalized stands under construction in the Champs-de-Mars area, planned for the Carnival.

Stored equipment intended for the construction of stands was damaged and scattered on the roadways, windshields of several private vehicles and of a State mini-bus were broken and stones thrown against police officers who retaliated with tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, causing a panic on the Champs-de-Mars.
