iciHaiti - COVID-19 : Message from the representatives of religions in Haiti
Mgr Launay Saturné President of the Haitian Episcopal Conference (CEH), ATI Caril Henry Desmornes, Vodou Sector, Father Fritz Désiré, Episcopal Church of Haiti and Pastor Clément Joseph Secretary General of the Social Mission of Haitian Churches (MISSEH) have sent a message for May 14th, that we invite you to share the main extracts

Message from the representatives of religions in Haiti for May 14 :
"[...] At this point, if we do not take the necessary measures, we risk leading to a health crisis, a humanitarian crisis more serious than all those that we have already known. In this sense, we continue to encourage you, Haitians and foreigners living in Haiti, to follow the advice and official instructions given by public authorities and specialists in the health field. We invite all those who are on national territory to respect them to limit contagion as much as possible [...] If everyone protects themselves, they also protect their neighbor. Let's protect each other ! Let's be united with each other. One way to defeat Covid-19 in Haiti is by following the instructions.

Our country is out of breath, destitute of resources [...] These days, the population is experiencing a terrible period of hunger. Even before the appearance of Covid-19 in Haiti, more than 40% of the population lived in food insecurity, that is to say experienced hunger, without counting those who could no longer eat at their hunger. [...] A people who does not have enough to eat cannot resist an epidemic, because good nutrition is a key element in the fight against disease. We watch, like sentries, alongside the people. This is why we ask the authorities of the State to act with eagerness to avoid a social, economic and health catastrophe. They must take responsibility for their responsibilities towards the people who have the right to health, food and security.

In the meantime, in the face of all these calamities, we cannot remain indifferent. To help the people to fight with all their might against this terrible virus and all the other problems facing the country, we, signatories of this letter and as believers in a God Master of life and death, invite the people all over the national territory to devote the day of May 14 to prayer, fasting and a work of mercy towards others. This invitation is sent to the faithful of the Churches, to believers of all religions, to men and women of good will. We wish them to join in faith, during this day of May 14, to ask God to come to the aid of humanity in the fight against all these plagues, certain that we are that He stands at our sides in this fight. We want to bow down to Him to implore his mercy on his people, and his help against the coronavirus and all other evil. It is not because we doubt the capabilities of science and the health system, but because we believe that God remains the believer's unfailing recourse in distress. And such is our situation in Haiti today.

In each zone, in each district, in each department, religious leaders will find the appropriate means to organize this day while respecting health regulations.

We thank each and everyone in advance for the welcome given to this initiative of a day of prayer, fasting and work of mercy at this difficult time in our history. To all we say : Good luck! Take all precautions and stay alert !"
