iciHaiti - Politic : Haiti assumes the presidency a.i. of CIDI of the OAS
After having assumed the rotating Presidency (April to June 2020) of the Organization of American States (OAS) which mainly deals with political issues or democratic governance, Haiti assumes for the second half of 2020, the Presidency of the Inter-American Development Council Integrated (CIDI) which is responsible for sustainable development issues.

Léon Charles, the Permanent Representative of Haiti declared "[...] Our arrival at CIDI will allow us to address the issue of resilience (economic, environmental and social) by emphasizing the measures to be taken to reduce the impact of health crisis on our most vulnerable populations [...] Our mandate as President will aim to reduce the impacts of Covid-19 on vulnerable populations, reduce poverty and guarantee food security in the region." Note that it is the Permanent Representative of Honduras who will assume the vice-president of CIDI.

For his part Riyad Insanally, the outgoing President of CIDI and Permanent Representative of Guyana, thanked the delegations for their flexibility to the constraints imposed by the pandemic. "I would like to congratulate all the delegations for their willingness to adapt to the new format of virtual meetings. and their commitment to work together to realign CIDI's priorities to meet the urgent needs and demands of the crisis."
