iciHaiti - Politic : Towards a better management of sports infrastructures

For a better management and standardization of sports infrastructure operations for the benefit of young people, athletes and citizens in general, the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the coordination of sports centers in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, organized two days of discussions with those in charge of sports facilities in the Ministry.

Topics covered :

- Staff management

- The leisure offer

- Planning of sports activities

- Management and organization of sporting events

- The legal nature of sports centers

- The profitability of the centers

- The operations manual for the executives of the ministry, specialized in these areas.

Discussions on the situation of the Centers (functioning, resources, needs and potential) showed the need to standardize operations with a view to rational management.

The Ministry wants each manager to be able to ensure the optimal management of a center, encourage employees to take initiatives, make the best decisions and offer quality service to users. The person in charge must also create favorable conditions for the practice of sports disciplines and the offer of entertainment.

Ms Marina Gourgue, Sports Center Coordinator, called on each center manager to make the technicians' work easier, to make each employee useful and to provide a much more attractive environment in terms of maintenance.

Minister Ronald Gérard D'Mézard, is committed to supporting center managers in their initiatives aimed at their proper functioning and also invited them to keep managers informed of the difficulties encountered and of the changes necessary to operate in order to better serve athletes, young people and citizens.
