This Saturday, October 17 marks the 214th anniversary of the assassination of the Founding Father of the Haitian Nation, Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines.

Pradel Henriquez, Minister of Culture, invites the driving forces of our society and the entire population to reflect on the Dessalinian ideal "the dream of a prosperous and unified Nation".

In this time of turmoil and anguish, Minister Henriquez who "believes that no one in the world, whatever their level of leadership, can truly govern a people torn apart, calls for serenity and dialogue, in order to keep intact the spirit of the Founding Fathers of our Nation [...]

[...] It is clear that the spirit of the Emperor, brutally murdered on October 17 like today, continues to haunt us. However, we must avoid, by our words and by our actions, to repeat his assassination.

Jean-Jacques Dessalines actually wanted us to live on a free land, and on a responsible land, where unity, order, work and justice reign. Let's live up to his ideal," concluded Minister Henriquez.
