iciHaiti - DR : The construction of the border fence could begin in October 2021

Dominican President Luis Abinader said that the specifications of the tender for the construction of the double border fence (physical and electronic) on the demarcation line of Haiti is already available for download and that if all conditions are met, work could start by October 2021.

Abinader recalled that this double fence (with a budget of $100 million https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33190-haiti-dr-the-dominican-fence-at-the-border-will-cost-more-than-$100-million.html) will be equipped with a major state-of-the-art surveillance device (including: motion sensors, facial recognition and night vision cameras, radars, thermal detectors , drones etc... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32908-haiti-flash-the-dominican-republic-will-test-an-israeli-system-of-electronic-border.html)

Remember that this double fence should not cover the entire 391 kilometers of the border, but only the 191 km of the demarcation line where it is more difficult to control irregular immigration and smuggling https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33190-haiti-dr-the-dominican-fence-at-the-border-will-cost-more-than-$100-million.html

Note that the Dominican army has already built 35 km of regular fence on the border with Haiti. The sections built are located at the border posts of Jimaní and Elías Piña, the second and third largest between the two countries, and work is still ongoing. This standard fence initiated before the Medina presidency is intended to curb the theft of vehicles and livestock in particular.
