Following the tragic death of President Jovenel Moïse on July 7 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html The Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) expresses its sincere condolences to the Moïse family and to the Haitian people.

The Group recalls with appreciation the opportunity it had to engage in constructive dialogue with President Moïse during his previous visits to Haiti.

During this uncertain time, the Group calls on ail actors of Haitian society to remain cairn in order to avoid an escalation of violence. All actors in Haitian public life must unite in order to fight against the ongoing violence in Haiti so that all can freely enjoy their fundamental rights, including their right to life and security.

A thorough investigation of today's events must take place in order to ensure accountability and to end the cycle of impunity. Vve also cail on ail development partners to continue to support the people of Haiti at this critical juncture.

The Advisory Group continues to reiterate the need for ail sectors of the population, including political parties, the private sector, civil societv, women's groups and religious leaders, to have a genuine dialogue among Haitians and to work constructively to address the current political crisis. Peace is indispensable for the sustainable development that the people of Haiti need.
