Sunday July 11, 2021 as part of the 16th edition of the Gold Cup, on the lawn of the "Children’ss Mercy Park" in Kansas City, our Grenadiers faced the United States in their first group match.

After the forfeits of Steeven Saba and Hervé Bazile it is a deprived team of 5 players tested positive for Covid-19 : Jems geffrard, Don Deedson Louicius, Isaac Raud (GK), Frantzdy Pierrot and Josué Duverger (GK) that our Grenadiers faced the American favorite with just one goalie, Bryal Sylvestre.

The team of Jean-Jacques Pierre severely weakened for the match with 7 players unavailable showed courage. Our Grenadiers are never discouraged and never gave up, but at the start of the first period on a defensive error they conceded a goal from a powerful header from Sam Vines on a cross from Zardes on the right wing in the 8' [0-1]

Coming back from the locker room, our Grenadiers were more offensive although their actions never really worried Turner, the American goalkeeper. However, in the last minutes of the match, Haiti came close to equalizing, but our Grenadiers failed to find the loophole and ultimately bowed to the Berhalter team who won his first Pool victory and the first 3 points by the smallest of the margins [0-1].
