As part of the 38th editions des Francophonies, on the sidelines of the Festival "Les Zébrures d'automne", the Haitian poet, playwright and novelist, Jean D'Amérique (26, native of Côte-de-Fer), who published last March, her novel "Soleil à coudre" (Edition Actes Sud), was named Sunday September 26, 2021, winner of the 8th Edition of the Prix Théâtre RFI 2021 for her play "Opéra Poussière".

This theatrical work is dedicated to the life of Sanité Bélaire (forgotten figure in the history of Haiti), sergeant then lieutenant of the Haitian revolutionary army, resistance member and Haitian heroine of the anti-colonialist struggle carried out in 1802, at the age of 21, murdered by French soldiers in 1802.

"Working on all registers of the language, this text interweaves dreams and claims and testifies to a classicism nourished by hip hop poetry" said the Jury in a press release about the play "Opéra Poussière"

Reacting to this good news, Emmanuel Jacquet Minister of Culture declared "On behalf of the Ministry of Culture and on my own behalf, I congratulate the writer Jean d'Amerique who wins the RFI Théâtre 2021 Prize, for his play Opéra Poussière. The writer, whose works have already won many awards, continues to make our literature and our country shine."
