iciHaiti - Insecurity : The OAS hopes that the UN can give a quick response to Haiti's request
Friday, October 7, Luis Almagro the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), at the end of the 52nd General Assembly of the organization. in Lima, expressed the hope that the UN "can give a rapid response" to the request of the Government of Haiti for an "immediate deployment of a specialized armed force" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37831-haiti-flash-towards-a-foreign-armed-intervention-in-haiti-to-eliminate-gangs.html.

"We hope that the United Nations system, which has better capacities in terms of human, financial and material resources [...] can provide a rapid response, that will be our objective. We hope that the countries of the inter-American system on the Security Council will work on this issue to urgently advance the request made by Haiti."

Almagro believes that in Haiti the population lives without fuel, without sanitary conditions, without drinking water, without access to health care, little food and the children are deprived of schools... emphasizing in conclusion "We are in a situation of implosion in this country which requires urgent action in this regard."

Recalling that during the first plenary session of the 52nd General Assembly of the OAS, the 19 member countries approved a resolution expressing their concern about the insecurity in Haiti and considered the need to strengthen the judicial system and civil society in Haiti, to fight against impunity and corruption, and to clarify the various crimes committed in this country and reaffirmed the principles enshrined in the Charter of the Organization of American States, in particular those related to democracy and social security. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-37836-icihaiti-politic-lima-joint-declaration-on-haiti.html
