iciHaiti - Boat-People : 396 Haitians intercepted in an overloaded and dangerous boat
24/01/2023 06:11:16

On Monday, Jan. 22, U.S. Coast Guard Spokesperson Nicole Groll said a heavily overloaded 50-foot boat with 396 Haitians on board was intercepted Saturday afternoon near the island of Cay Sal bank, an isolated island about 30 miles off the northern coast of Cuba.

Cay Sal Bank is one of a group of uninhabited islands at the southern end of the Bahamas that are a frequent stopover for migrants from Cuba and Haiti en route to the Florida Keys.

Immigration officials in the Bahamas have said that Haitians will be processed on the Bahamian island of Inagua and then repatriated to Haiti.
