iciHaiti - Border : Dominicans buy heavy military equipment to protect their sovereignty
The Dominican army received a first batch of 4 URO armored vehicles model VAMTAC ST5 (made in Spain), out of the 21 purchased last December.

General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, Commander General of the Dominican Army, said that the URO VAMTAC ST5 (High Mobility Tactical Vehicle) have armor resistant to weapons fire and mine explosions.

Stating that they are all-terrain vehicles with high tactical mobility, with a range of more than 600 kilometers and speeds of up to 135 kilometers when fully loaded in geographically rugged areas, such as those which predominate at the Dominican-Haitian border.

He said that with the integration of these armored vehicles, the army will "strengthen its mobility and protection capabilities for its military, while contributing in an essential way to the development of an integrated border control system and protecting effectively the integrity, sovereignty and independence of the nation".

A total of 6 American Huey II helicopters, 10 new reconnaissance and surveillance drones, 21 armored vehicles and 4 riot trucks were purchased to strengthen the border and protect the sovereignty of Dominican territory.
