iciHaiti - Environment : Training of instructors on forest fires
Six forest firefighter instructors from the Ministry of the Environment participated last week for 4 days in a training session on "he Introduction to the behavior of forest fires".

This training was given by videoconference with the Latin America and Caribbean team of the international programs of the US Forest Service (USFS), through the Natural Infrastructure for Resilience Caribbean (NICAR) Program, with funding from the Department of American State.

This training, which favored an interactive approach, aimed to contribute to the capacity building of participants on the basic concepts relating to the behavior of forest fires. Particular emphasis was placed on the main components of the environment and specifically of forest fires, such as : fuels, weather conditions, behavior of fires in relation to the terrain topography and the potential threats of forest fires to the firefighters.

According to Eder Audate, Director of Forests and Renewable Energies at the Ministry, "this training is a major asset for the participants and instructors of the Ministry of the Environment, who are called upon to pass on the lessons learned to the various agents of the Environmental Surveillance Corps."
