iciHaiti - Humanitarian : Saint-Kitts-et-Nevis released 15 Haitians detained since February 2023
Fifteen Haitian nationals detained in Saint Kitts and Nevis since February 2023, in an irregular migration situation following the stranding of their boat in the Gallows Bay region (Nevis) have been released.

For humanitarian reasons, the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which since February 2023 has met their basic needs and provided them with health care, has decided to release the 15 Haitians concerned on June 10, 2023 and to entrust them to the local Haitian community who had previously indicated as a collective that they were both ready and willing to fully welcome their compatriots.

In order to strengthen the regional push against human trafficking and illegal migration, the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis will soon review and improve national laws on this subject, as well as asylum procedures.
