iciHaiti - UNESCO : $280,000 to safeguard the tradition of cut iron in the Village of Noailles
The Ministry of Culture informs that the project aimed at supporting the community of artists and craftsmen of the village of Noailles to safeguard the tradition of cut iron in the Village of Noailles, developed from a request for financial assistance of 280,000 US dollars by the Ministry in November 2022 with the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund, was approved during the eighteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO Headquarters, Paris).

This project will be carried out over a period of 3 years and aims to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the art of iron cutting in Croix-des-Bouquets.

Articulated around four axes, this project to save cut iron will allow:

First, artisans to resume, practice and transmit the art of metal cutting in the emergency situation;
Second, to strengthen the capacities of artisans, the structuring of the community;
Third, to develop new distribution channels to provide artisans with resources that can last beyond the emergency;
Fourth, to raise awareness of the intangible cultural heritage of cut metal, make it known and promote it in Haiti and abroad.
