iciHaiti - DR : The Consul of Haiti in Santiago works tirelessly
In order to intensify the process of supporting the Haitian community in the CIBAO region, the Consul of Haiti in Santiago (Rep. Dom.) Jean Gardy Marius paid a visit to the hospital "Seguro social Pedro Henrique Urena" in Santiago, in order to learn about the situation of pregnant Haitian women and to find, together with officials, better ways to assist Haitian nationals often in difficulty at this level.

The Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago is already working on proposals that can improve the quality of medical service for compatriots and more importantly, reduce the mortality rate of pregnant women.

The Consulate has looked into the problem of communication between patients and Dominican doctors and intends to provide the hospital with intermediaries (Haitian professional doctors) in order to facilitate the task of doctors as well as Haitian patients in time of support.

These intermediaries will also serve as a bridge between patients and the Consulate for follow-up and further assistance.

Determined to provide each Haitian migrant with legal documents, which will facilitate patients' access to adequate care, the Consulate is also investing in raising awareness of the importance of medical monitoring, which is essential during pregnancy to avoid complications.
