December 8, 2023 marked the centenary of the founding of the Haitian Society of History, Geography and Geology, created in 1923.

This institution was created at the Pétion high school thanks to the initiative of Dr. Ricot Brun, who succeeded in bringing together a group of renowned Haitian intellectuals, as well as eminent political figures such as Dantès Bellegarde, Jean Price-Mars, Sténio Vincent and Jacques Catts Press.

Recognized as a public utility in 1930, the Haitian Society of History, Geography and Geology is the oldest academic society in the entire Caribbean basin and the South American continent.

Since 1925, the Haitian Society of History, Geography and Geology has regularly published a journal with articles, reflections and research work. It also rewards the works of researchers and history teachers through the Prize of the Haitian Society of History and Geography.
