iciHaiti - Heritage : Loss of the more than 200-year-old caïmitier of the Palais Sans-Souci
The Institute for the Protection of National Heritage (ISPAN) informs the public that the royal caïmitier (tree of justice) which existed in the courtyard of the Sans-Souci Palace (Milot) for more than 200 years, was uprooted by bad weather that has known the northern region since last Monday.

Despite the scaffolding and cables put in place to support the tree whose trunk had been hollow for some time, the violent wind which hit the North on December 19, 2023 got the better of this icon which reigned over the majority surveys and engravings of the Sans Souci site.

Considering the importance of this symbol for the site and the Haitian Nation, ISPAN will document, discuss and exhibit the original trunk while replacing the emblematic caïmitier tree with a young shoot.
