G-2 intelligence agents and members of the Dominican Army intercepted a suspicious black Tahoe SUV with a Dominican license plate this week at the Aminilla military checkpoint (Dajabón Province).

On board 12 Haitians (2 women, a minor, and 9 men) in an irregular migratory situation while they were going to Santiago were arrested and transferred under military guard to the Fourth Brigade of the Army in Mao, in the province of Valverde and subsequently handed over to the General Directorate of Immigration for repatriation.

To avoid capture, the driver transporting the people fled but was eventually arrested and brought to justice for smuggling undocumented immigrants.

Since the appointment of Colonel Freddy Soto Thormann as director of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront), search and capture operations for Haitians in irregular migration have intensified in all of Haiti's border provinces. For the month of December 2023, members of Cesfront arrested 2,700 illegal Haitians who were then handed over to the General Directorate of Migration.
