iciHaiti - History : Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of President Sténio Vincent

Thursday February 22, 2024, Emmelie Prophète-Milcé, the Minister of Culture and Communication, saluted the memory of the former President of Haiti, Sténio Vincent as part of the 150 years of birth of this Haitian politician... (February 22, 1874 - September 3, 1959).

In this year 2024, declared "Year of Memory" by the Government, the Minister remembers the commitment and remarkable achievements in the field of culture of the 30th President of the Republic of Haiti and is delighted to have inherited of the work of President Vincent. He greatly participated in the institutionalization of heritage conservation in Haiti.

According to Minister Milcé, memory and its worship have the capacity to unite us as Haitians sharing the same country and necessarily the same destiny.

Sténio Vincent, great visionary and nationalist, led the country from November 18, 1930 to May 15, 1941. He created the National Library of Haiti (BNH) as well as its first network of annexes throughout the national territory. In addition, Sténio Vincent invested heavily in public works and education.
