iciHaiti - Obituary : Passing of the great historian Marcel B. Auguste
The Embassy of Haiti in Ottawa learned with great sadness of the death of the historian, Marcel B. Auguste, which occurred Tuesday February 27, 2024 in Canada. Passionate about history, he had published several books on Haiti. The Embassy welcomes his departure and presents its condolences to his family and loved ones.

Mr. Marcel B. Auguste was a renowned historian born in Port-au-Prince, in a neighborhood that he immortalized with a wonderful little book entitled "Si Bas-Peu-De-Chose m'était conté". He taught for nearly 30 years at the former Académie de Québec, now CEPEG de Sainte-Foy. Alongside his teaching career, he published solo "La République d'Haïti et la Deuxième Guerre mondiale" and "Élie Lescot: Coup d'œil sur une administration (1941-1946)".

He also authored, in collaboration with his cousin, Dr. Claude B. Auguste, a history of Haiti in four volumes and a key work on the War of Independence, “The Leclerc Expedition, 1801-1803”.

Marcel Auguste is the recipient of the Prize of the Haitian Society of History and Geography and the Paul Rivet Prize of the Académie des Sciences d'autre-mer (Paris).
