iciHaiti - Insecurity : Update on the situation (Friday March 8)
Friday March 8, 2024, the day began "in apparent calm" in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and it was only in the afternoon that the first gunshots were heard and intensified in a vast area extending from Champ de Mars to Nazon, Lalue, Canape-Vert and Turgeau, in the heart of Port-au-Prince.

Friday evening, tension suddenly rose in downtown Port-au-Prince, the surroundings of the National Palace were the scene of intense shootings

According to testimony from residents, armed individuals want to take control of the Port-au-Prince police station, and the base of the Departmental Law Enforcement Unit (UDMO) at Champ-de-Mars, but the various attacks have were pushed back by UDMO agents and agents of other PNH units

The messages circulating on social networks are unequivocal. The coalition of gangs attacks police stations and institutions located in the Champ-de-Mars area...

Note that Croix-des-Bouquets is entirely under the control of gangs after the attack and looting of the Town Hall.
