iciHaiti - Insecurity : Alert for Switzerland travelers

Thursday March 7, 2024, the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised Swiss citizens not to travel to Haiti due to the precarious security situation.

The Ministry recalls that Switzerland has no means to provide aid in the event of an emergency to its citizens, as Switzerland does not have a diplomatic representation in Haiti, but one in the neighboring Dominican Republic.

According to the Swiss Ministry, the country's current state structures are not able to guarantee security and the evolution of the situation is "very uncertain".

The number of kidnappings and other violent crimes are widespread throughout the country and particularly in the capital, Port-au-Prince. We cannot count on the support of the police. The situation is very dangerous for both Haitians and foreign nationals.
