The Haitian Football Federation (FHF) announces with immense sadness the death of René Vertus on Monday April 29, 2024 at the age of 87 "This great servant of football, former goalkeeper of the Haitian Racing club and the selection and coach of the national team, left us, leaving behind a huge vaccum. We send our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."

"René was a pillar of the Haitian team, notably as a substitute goalkeeper during the 1957 CCCF Cup, before distinguishing himself as a starting goalkeeper four years later, on the occasion of the 1961 edition in Costa Rica. His career was not limited to his performances on the pitch, he was also a valuable mentor, assisting coach Antoine Tassy during the 1974 World Cup in Germany. He then took the reins of the national team in 1978 and under his leadership, Haiti won the Caribbean Cup of Nations in 1979 in Suriname.

Rest in Peace, champion. Your legacy and your passion for football will remain engraved in our hearts forever."
