The Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFronT), in collaboration with the C-2 (intelligence service) and members of the Dominican Navy (ARD), seized 1,380,000 Capital brand cigarettes. in the area of El Papayo, Montecristi, near Punta Rucia.

The merchandise was transported in four vehicles: a Chevrolet Tahoe jeep, two Toyota Runners and a double-cab Toyota Tundra truck. The individuals in charge of the vehicles, who have not yet been identified, opened fire on the soldiers before fleeing, abandoning vehicles and goods.

During the operation, a man identified as Edwin Antonio Ramos was arrested. 138 cartons of cigarettes of 50 cartons of 200 cigarettes were found in the vehicles, totaling 1,380,000 cigarettes. It was determined that the contraband was smuggled on a boat from Haiti to Dominican territory.

The goods, vehicles and the detainee are at the operations base of the border for the corresponding legal proceedings.
