Monday, August 12, 2024 a terrible accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on the Verón-Bávaro ring road, La Altagracia province (eastern tip of the Dominican Republic) when a truck carrying Haitian construction workers returning home, violently collided with a bus for a reason that is still undetermined.

The toll is heavy at least 3 dead and 26 injured, some seriously and 2 in critical condition. All the victims are Haitian citizens, who were transferred to various health centers in the area : 19 to the Verón Municipal Hospital, 3 to the IMG Medical Center and 4 to the Punta Cana Medical Center.

The most serious cases were subsequently transferred to the General and Specialized Hospital "Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia" in Higüey.
