Friday, October 11, 2024, Bishop Jean Alix Verrier, Bishop Emeritus of Les Cayes since 2009, died at the age of 93 from illness at the Canapé Vert Hospital where he was being treated.

Alix Verrier, born March 9, 1931 in Latibolière, Haiti, was Bishop of Les Cayes (Haiti) from 1988 to 2009.

Ordained a priest on July 13, 1958, it was on December 21, 1985 that Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Les Cayes, alongside Bishop Jean-Jacques Angénor.

He was consecrated the following March 9 by Bishop Paolo Romeo, then Apostolic Nuncio in Haiti. He succeeded Mgr Angénor on April 9, 1988 and retired on March 9, 2009, the very day of his 78th birthday.
