iciHaiti - Agriculture : Launch of the year of cassava
As part of the celebration of World Food Day, Vernet Joseph, the Minister of Agriculture officially launched the year of cassava last week in the presence of many representatives of partner institutions including : the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the North, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Food Program (WFP), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), German Agro Action, Taiwanese Cooperation, the Consulate of Colombia and the City of Cap-Haïtien.

The Ministry chose the theme "Ann plante, pou n manje, pou n fè kòb" in perfect harmony with that chosen by the FAO for this World Food Day "The right to food for a better life and future".

In his speech, Minister Joseph explained that Cassava is a climate-resilient crop, representing a strategic asset for food security, which also offers a strong potential for conquering the international market in the perspective necessary for the development of the national economy.

The ceremony ended with the offering of gifts, mainly consisting of cassava-derived products by various personalities.

At the end of the day, for the attention of about fifty young people from the department, a workshop "Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Business Opportunities: Cassava Sector" was organized, combined with an agricultural exhibition around cassava and a culinary competition.
