iciHaïti - Obituary : Mrs. Milourie Sylfrard left us for the eternal Orient

In a note dated October 25, 2014, Marie Françoise Suzan, Minister for the Status of Women and Women's Rights, salutes the departure for the eternal Orient of Ms. Milourie Sylfrard (30 years old) alias "Fanm Vanyan" who died on October 12 at 1:00 a.m. after courageously fighting a long illness.

"Committed and passionate, Milourie Sylfrard was a fighter, a zealous worker who gave herself body and soul to respect the sovereignty of Haiti. She distinguished herself by her unwavering dedication on the construction site of the Ouanaminthe Canal, located on the Massacre River, where she worked as a foreman. She represented an emblematic figure in this mythical adventure that symbolizes the national unity and resistance of the Haitian people.

The departure of Milourie Sylfrard is a great loss for the Haitian community but her heroism will remain engraved in the memory of all. The courage she showed in the construction of the canal, her sense of a job well done in a sector traditionally reserved for men, her duty to her country are inspiring attitudes for future generations.

The Ministry of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights presents its sincere sympathies to the families, friends and loved ones of Milourie Sylfrard grieving over this unexpected departure.

May she rest in peace !"
