iciHaiti - Assassination of the Bar Association President Dorval : Unjustified and unacceptable slowness of justice 29/12/2024 09:30:51
In a note, the Council of the Bar Association of Port-au-Prince expresses its disapproval of the unjustified and unacceptable slowness of justice in processing the case. Note from the Council of the Bar Association of Port-au-Prince : "The Council of the Bar Association of Port-au-Prince, meeting on December 28, 2024, WHEREAS 52 months have passed since the tragic assassination of the President of the Bar Monferrier Dorval on August 28, 2020, EXPRESSES its unreserved disapproval of the unjustified and unacceptable slowness of the justice system in processing the case as well as the failure to comply with the procedural deadlines provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure; ASKS the judicial authorities concerned, in particular the investigating judge and the Chief Prosecutor, to put an end to this state of affairs and to do everything possible to ensure the satisfactory closure of the investigation; RECALLS the obligations imposed on the investigating judge by the law which entrusts his honor and professional probity with the mission of carrying out all acts of information that he deems useful for the manifestation of the truth; DENOUNCES more generally the chronic dysfunction of the courts in the jurisdiction of Port-au-Prince and the irregular practices that are established there; CONDEMNS the repeated attacks against lawyers in all jurisdictions and the inaction of the prosecuting authorities in the face of this violence; REAFFIRMS its unwavering determination to defend the practice of the legal profession; DEMANDS that justice be finally done so that the assassination of the Bâtonnier Monferrier Dorval does not go unpunished; Me Patrick Pierre-Louis bâtonnier" IH/ iciHaiti
