During the first Sunday mass of the year 2025, presided over in the Saint Louis Cathedral by Mgr. Gontrand Decoste, Bishop of the Diocese of Jérémie, the "Parish Council" announced that it would need 2 million US dollars for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of the cathedral.

To date, no official communication has yet been made regarding the results of the assessment of the state of the cathedral. The population is still waiting to know whether it will be rebuilt or rehabilitated, as well as the name of the firm that will be in charge of the work.

As of today, the committee in charge of this project has only 6,400 US dollars.

At present, both the Institute for the Preservation of National Heritage (ISPAN) and the town hall of Jérémie have shown carelessness and inefficiency on this issue, given the historical and cultural significance of this heritage.
