This past weekend, the Bahamas Immigration Enforcement Unit, in conjunction with Immigration SWAT, conducted operations in New Providence, an island in the archipelago that resulted in the arrest and detention of 21 Haitian nationals (6 women and 15 men) for illegal entry into the Bahamas, overstaying, among other things...

Previously, a joint operation between the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Department of Immigration on Harbour Island resulted in the arrest of 6 Haitian nationals for various immigration violations. Of the 6 arrested, 3 Haitians were transported to New Providence and are currently being held at the Carmichael Road Detention Center for further processing. They will be charged with illegal disembarkation and wilfully attempting to mislead an immigration officer.

In the neighboring Turks and Caicos Islands, a total of 150 Haitian migrants were arrested in the past week while attempting to enter the country illegally.

The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands are experiencing a significant increase in the arrival of Haitian migrants due to the crisis and violence in Haiti.
